INTERVIEW TIPS

Preparation

Being well organised and prepared increases confidence. Here are a few pointers to help you achieve this:-

  • Ensure that you have the correct details - date, time, location and the name of the person you are to see.
  • Visit the location in advance to familiarise yourself with it so you don't find yourself lost on the day.
  • Source company information from agency/website/corporate brochures.
  • Have a clear understanding of the role and what is required.
  • List key skills/attributes/experience that you can bring to the role.
  • Plan what you will wear in advance - our agency can advise on clients' dress codes.   Be well groomed, clean.  Presentation is very important!
  • Take your CV, with references and certificates if requested.
  • Arrive in good time and allow for delays.

First Impressions

  • Arrive five to ten minutes early.
  • Greet the company staff with a firm handshake, smile and make eye contact.
  • Make a good impression with the receptionist, they are sometimes called upon for feedback.
  • Remain calm and confident if you are kept waiting, there is likely to be a good reason.
  • Most of all relax, and try not to worry!

The Interview

This is your chance to show the employer that you are the right person for the job.

  • Remember that personal qualities often count more that experience.
  • Actively listen to questions and respond with confidence and enthusiasm.  If you are unsure about a question don't be too embarrassed to ask for it to be repeated.
  • Prepare an answer to "tell me about yourself".
  • Use positive body language - a warm smile, good eye contact and a firm handshake.
  • If there is more than one interviewer, look at the one who is talking; when you are talking shift your glance from one to the other.
  • Pause before answering questions if necessary so you can think carefully about your answer.
  • Answer questions honestly and concisely.
  • Speak clearly and confidently.
  • Good questions to ask are about management styles, competition and company aims and goals - leave issues of terms and
conditions for the agency to deal with.
